Wireless Voice Communications began changing the way the world communicates in the 20th Century closing decade. Since then, the evolution of the wireless communications from narrowband to broadband has allowed seamless, always on-line access to unlimited information and new entertainment services to users.
It is being acknowledged that the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) technologies are having vast advantages due to their offer of personal broadband access regardless of user’s locality. Even more if an area lacks adequate wireline infrastructure, the wireless could provide the cost-effective broadband access to the users. As wireless services develop richer and diverse, bandwidth consumption and expectation for quality has risen appropriately while the revenue per user has declined. Needless to say that the operators have to find the best strategy of minimizing their operation costs and choose the right technology in order to bring this wireless broadband experience to both the urban and rural masses without widening the communication gap.
Frequency spectrum is a valuable asset to these wireless operators. Conducive regulations have been known to be the critical component of any growth in the deployment of the BWAs. The great potential of these BWA technologies have led to many regulators towards flexible allocation of spectrum and awarding some spectrum bands without technology-specific restrictions. In the view of the rising demand for ubiquitous mobile broadband access, need has risen that the Southern African regulators and operators discuss on how the region can manage and allocate the valuable resource – the frequency spectrum and allow the region to gain from this broadband .
The Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) in partnership with Communications Authority of Zambia (CAZ) are to provide a forum at which “Next Generation Wireless Technologies” is to be debated upon. The Conference will be held from 30 March to 02 April 2009 at Zambezi Sun in Livingstone, Zambia. Please download Conference brochure for more details.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
The key objectives of this conference are to:

  • Bring understanding of the evolution in the wireless technologies and access.
  • Learn on the opportunities that Broadband Wireless Access Technologies are bringing to the communications users.
  • Learn on what’s new in the research and innovation in terms of Broadband Wireless Access Technologies.
  • Discuss and debate on the role of the regulator in bringing universal access to broadband wireless.
  • Discuss and debate on how the region can maximise the use of the scarce spectrum and the world trends in allocation of spectrum for accelerated deployment of Broadband Wireless Access Technologies.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The conference will be of interest to Government Policy Makers, senior executives and strategists of ICT regulators, operators, vendors, researchers and innovators.
