Fast Facts about Namibia

Geographical Location  

Namibia is situated on Africa's south western seaboard, bordered in the west by the Atlantic Ocean, in the east by Botswana and Zimbabwe, in the south by South Africa and in the North by Angola. The country's surface area is 824 268 square kilometre.

Climate

Throughout most of the country the climate is arid and semi-arid, changing to sub tropical in the far north east. The hottest months are between November and February, with average maximum day temperature ranging from 20 °C to 36 °C. Average minimum winter temperature range from 6 °C to 10 °C and average winter day temperatures from 18 °C to 22 °C

Time

Namibia is one hour ahead of GMT in the winter months, April to September, and two hours ahead of GMT from October to March. The time changes on the first Sunday of April to wintertime and back to summertime on the first Sunday in September.

Currency

Namibia currency is Namibia Dollar (N$). The Namibia Dollar is linked and on par with the South African Rand (ZAR), also legal tender in Namibia. Most major foreign currencies and travellers cheques can be exchanged in Namibia. International Visa, Master Card, American Express and Diners Club Credit Cards are accepted at most retail outlets and accommodation facilities.

Travel Requirements

A valid passport is required to enter Namibia. Visa to enter the country are issued either by the Ministry of Home Affairs in Windhoek or by Namibia missions abroad.

Visas are required by all visitors except those from Angola, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malaysia, Mozambique, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, the Russian Federation, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Swaziland, Switzerland, Tanzania, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Tourism Facilities

Windhoek hosts the State House, Heroes Acre, Zoo Park Location, Daan Viljoen Game Reserve and Penduka Project.
The Windhoek City Council provides guided tours and these tours can be arranged at the following places:
