The Communications Regulators’ Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pan African Postal Union (PUASP), representing a major advance in collaborative efforts to support and develop the Information and Communications Technology(ICT) and postal sectors across the region.
Signed on 7th November 2024 at the Universal Postal Union (UPU) headquarters in Bern,Switzerland, the MoU establishes a framework for strategic partnership between CRASA and PUASP. Both organizations have committed to working together to address shared challenges, foster knowledge exchange, and improve regulatory environments to support sustainable growth within Africa’s ICT and postal industries.
TheMoU outlines several priority areas for collaboration:
a) Sharing best practices in postal regulation and sector reform;
b) Advancing technology transfer and digital transformation;
c) Developing solutions to support e-commerce and logistics;
d) Promoting environmental sustainability initiatives; and
e) Strengthening capacity building and governance in postal regulation.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the UPU and members of the UPU Restricted Union, who expressed great optimism about the positive impact this partnership will have on enhancing postal service quality across the Americas, Spain, Portugal, and Southern Africa. This MoU aligns with CRASA’s mission to harmonize ICT and postal regulations in Southern Africa and supports PUASP’s dedication to empowering postal services across Africa.
