World Post Day 9th October 2025

Today, 9 October, we join the world in celebrating World Post Day marking the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874.

Across Southern Africa, postal services remain one of the most far-reaching and trusted service infrastructures, connecting people, communities, and businesses, and driving regional transformation.

Beyond mail, today’s postal network has evolved into a platform for innovation and inclusion. It delivers digital financial services that support financial inclusion, provides lifeline medical deliveries that strengthen public health systems, and contributes to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through accessible, people-centred services.

As the region moves towards the SADC Vision 2050: a peaceful, inclusive, and industrialised community: postal operators are embracing digitalisation, refining their operations, and building smarter partnerships to ensure their continued relevance and resilience.

This year’s theme, “Post for People: Local Service. Global Reach.”, reflects the enduring value of the postal sector as both a community lifeline and a global connector.

At CRASA, we reaffirm our commitment to harmonising the Postal and ICT regulatory environment across the SADC region, creating a conducive business climate, promoting innovation, and ensuring that postal services continue to serve people effectively, both locally and globally.
